About Me

My photo
Philip Mayer
I was born and raised in a strong Christian atmosphere as the second child in a family of eight kids. I had a wonderful time growing up with my siblings, working as a lifeguard, a cook, horse trainer, salesman and a variety of other experiences before beginning college in 2000, studying business with hopes of becoming rich. That changed when God’s call to become a pastor became a strong influence in my life and I flew down to Florida to begin studying for ministry. There, I met and married my wife and finished my undergraduate education, while enjoying the warm sun and meeting many new friends. Then it was back up to the snowy north for three years of seminary before ordination in the Episcopal Church where I happily served a small parish for three years. And now, for reasons of conscience I have decided to become Catholic. Life is an adventure.

Blogs I Enjoy

  • Dr. Helen, is a forensic psychologist who likes to commentate on popular culture and society. She's normally a thought provoking and awakening read.
  • Titus ONE Nine one of the most well read blogs covering Episcopal Church news from a balanced, but somewhat conservative perspective. Kendall Harmon, who posts most of the editorials tends to be excessive, posting sometimes dozens of pieces a day.
  • Until Translucent is written by Beth, a priest back in Massachusetts, who along with her husband Mark, purchased a house in a neighborhood which she describes as an abondoned place of empire. She and Mark are amazing people with big hearts for their impoverished community, which is why they moved to the place they are staying. Melissa and I enjoyed getting to know them while living on the third floor of the house for a year. Beth consistently posts random thoughts and other experiences from her life in the neighborhood.
  • A Walk Through Durham Township, Pennsylvania: Kathleen Connally is an amazing photographer. Viewing her photographs is like entering into another world. She brings me inspiration.

Useful Links

  • Text Week: the best website that I have discovered as a resource in preparing sermons following the lectionary readings
  • N.T. Wright Page, encompasses a wide selection of published and unpublished works available on the internet of one of the foremost New Testament scholars in the world.
  • The Christian Classics Ethereal Library is a digital library of hundreds of texts such as the Church Fathers, Reformers and many others. Once you have established your own account, you can even highlight and scrible notes in the books for yourself.
