This Sunday I am preaching on Breaking the Chains of debt and in my research I found some very interesting information on the history of the Church's resolute stand against usury (that is loaning money for interest). Check out this excellent paper: A Short Review of the Historical Critique of Usury
A good civilization is that in which the society is structured in such a way that makes it easy for the citizens to be good. A bad civilization is structured in such a way that it makes it easy for the citizens to be bad. Are we a good society or a bad society?

- I was born and raised in a strong Christian atmosphere as the second child in a family of eight kids. I had a wonderful time growing up with my siblings, working as a lifeguard, a cook, horse trainer, salesman and a variety of other experiences before beginning college in 2000, studying business with hopes of becoming rich. That changed when God’s call to become a pastor became a strong influence in my life and I flew down to Florida to begin studying for ministry. There, I met and married my wife and finished my undergraduate education, while enjoying the warm sun and meeting many new friends. Then it was back up to the snowy north for three years of seminary before ordination in the Episcopal Church where I happily served a small parish for three years. And now, for reasons of conscience I have decided to become Catholic. Life is an adventure.
